When designing an area for an outdoor living space, the first thing you should observe is the space you have to work with.  The second thing is to determine what the “function” of the space should be for you in order to meet your needs, like grilling area, table, couch, Pavillion, etc.  More often than not, the function of the area will not only determine the size of the patio but also the shape.  

A well designed patio will allow for easy access and separated areas or “rooms”.  These rooms are designated for grilling, dining, relaxing, firepit or lounging and will allow for a good flow and function of your outdoor patio and will also allow for more people to enjoy it at the same time while not being too crowded.  One of the concrete paver manufacturers that we use on almost all of our projects is Belgard.  They have coined the phrase “Belgard Rooms”, to show how well their products can be used when designing and building a great Outdoor Space.  This concept is very similar to how the inside of your house is laid out, with the only defining difference being that its now outside.
